H.M. Mswati III, King of Swaziland, to visit Taiwan

At the invitation of President Ma Ying-yeou, H.M. Mswati III, the king of Swaziland, will lead a ministerial delegation to Taiwan for a state visit, from July 28 to August 3, 2010. The delegation members include: H.E. Lutfo Dlamini, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; H.R.H Prince Hlangusemphi Dlamini, Minister of Economic Planning and Development; Hon. Nelsiwe Shongwe, Minister of Information Communication and Technology; Hon. Jabulile Mashwama, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade; and Hon. Macford Sibandze, Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs. This trip marks His Majesty’s twelfth visit to Taiwan, a solemn welcoming military salute will be held on July 29, 2010.
King Mswati III will meet with President Ma Ying-jeou who will host a state banquet in His Majesty’s honor. His Majesty is scheduled to visit the Legislative Yuan where President Wang Jin-pyng will host a luncheon. His Majesty and the delegation will convey a Taiwan-Swaziland Business Seminar in the Grand Ballroom at the Grand Hyatt Taipei in the afternoon of July 30, 2010, to help Taiwanese businessmen and enterprises better understand the investment environment in Swaziland. In addition, the ministers and other officials accompanying His Majesty will sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with Chunghwa Telecom and CECI Engineering Consultants, which will serve as a basis for further strengthening economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
Swaziland, a southern African nation, is an important diplomatic ally of Taiwan. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1968, the two countries have well cooperated in areas such as economic development, agriculture, medical care and human resources training. The Swazi government has spared no effort in supporting Taiwan’s efforts to participate in the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the International Civil Aviation Organization, among other international organizations.(E)
